Amerikkalainen omenapiirakka on klassinen syysherkku, jota Yhdysvalloissa nautitaan myös kiitospäivänä.

Valmistusaineet

12 annosta
5 dlvehnäjauhoja
175 gvoita
1 dljääkylmää vettä
1 kgomenoita (hapan lajike, esim. Granny Smith)
1 1⁄4 dlsokeria
1 rklkanelia
1⁄4 tljauhettua muskottipähkinää
25 gvoita
1 kananmuna
1 rklsokeria

Valmistusohjeet

  1. Nypi jauhot ja voi murumaiseksi seokseksi. Lisää vesi muutamassa erässä ja muotoile taikina palloksi. Kääri taikinapallo kelmuun ja laita jääkaappiin vähintään puoleksi tunniksi.
  2. Pese omenat hyvin ja poista siemenkodat. Paloittele omenat siivuiksi ja lisää sokeri, kaneli ja muskottipähkinä.
  3. Jaa taikina kahtia siten, että toinen osa on hieman toista suurempi. Kauli pienempi osa ensin jonkin verran piirakkavuokaa (halkaisija n. 26 cm) suuremmaksi ympyräksi. Nosta piirakkavuoan pohjalle, mutta älä painele tiukasti kiinni.
  4. Levitä omenaviipaleet vuokaan ja silppua voi nokareiksi niiden päälle.
  5. Kaulitse isompi taikinanpala ympyräksi ja nosta se omenoiden päälle kanneksi. Nipistä reunat yhteen, käännä sisäänpäin ja rypytä aaltoilevaksi.
  6. Voitele piiras munalla, ripottele päälle sokeria ja pistele kanteen reikiä haarukalla. Paista 175 asteessa noin tunti. Jos pinta meinaa tummua liikaa, peitä se foliolla.

Amerikkalainen omenapiirakka tarjotaan tyypillisesti hieman jäähtyneenä vaniljajäätelön, vaniljakastikkeen tai kermavaahdon kera. Voit halutessasi käyttää täytteessä sekaisin kahta eri omenalajiketta. Täytteen voi myös maustaa sitruunamehulla, mutta tällöin sokerin määrää kannattaa hieman lisätä ja joukkoon sekoittaa muutama lusikallinen vehnäjauhoja. Kananmunattoman version saat jättämällä kannen voitelematta, vähälaktoosisen tai laktoosittoman käyttämällä vähälaktoosista tai laktoositonta voita.
